Uma Thavamani

Microbiologist, Working on Vermicomposting

Chennai, India

I am specialized in Microbiological techniques and most of my research activities are focused on the isolation and identification of beneficial microbes from vermicompost. I have knowledge about composting various organic substrates using earthworm and study the physiochemical properties of vermicompost that can in turn be applied to improve crop productivity. In addition, I have experience in Vermifilteration, a sustainable method for water purification. This expertise enables me to create enriched soil and waste management, making a significant contribution to environmental sustainability and agricultural practices.

Attending the virtual Earthworm Symposium holds a great opportunity for the following reasons:

  1. Enrich my knowledge in earthworm research and stay updated with emerging trends.
  2. Network with experts in the field and connect with community of likeminded professional.
  3. Explore collaboration opportunities.
  4. Enhance career prospects.
  5. Promote sustainable environmental practices.

Being awarded this scholarship would not only be a recognition of my commitment to vermicompost research, it would also empower me to further advance my contribution to the field. The benefits of attending the Earthworm Symposium, include staying at the forefront of research, expanding my network and gaining access to innovative practices, all of which would ultimately support my research and enable me to make more sustainable difference in the realms of sustainability and environmental conservation.

I plan to use the knowledge from the symposium for professional development, networking, problem solving, research, education, industry expertise and making an impact within my field.
